Vancouver update, 5 May 2015
Thanks to U2FanPeter on Interference, we have some interesting news from Vancouver on Tuesday night. We must emphasise at the outset that this news is somewhat secondhand; in this case, it is not from Peter himself, but via a contact he considers trustworthy. Peter himself has proven a reliable and accurate source (not just this year, but on past occasions as well), so if he considers another source to be trustworthy, we are willing to credit their report.
We already know that Adam, Edge, and Larry were back at the Pacific Coliseum on Tuesday night, even though Bono sang that day in Stanford at Dave Goldberg's funeral. Thanks to the marvel of air travel, it's only a short trip from Stanford to Vancouver. According to Peter's post, Bono made it to Vancouver for a short rehearsal that night.
Peter's contact reports that the following four songs were rehearsed:
- No Line On The Horizon
- Bullet The Blue Sky
- Angel Of Harlem
- Moment Of Surrender
U2 have already been rehearsing Bullet, and it is not surprising that they would run through Angel Of Harlem after playing it twice in New York on Monday. More significant are the rehearsals of two No Line On The Horizon songs: the title track and Moment Of Surrender. To date, the only song known to have been rehearsed from NLOTH was Magnificent. That's a strikingly low figure for songs from an album on the second tour for which its material is eligible: the previous lows are no Zooropa songs on Popmart, two How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb songs on 360, and four Achtung Baby songs on Popmart. All other albums have so far been represented by five or more songs on their second tour. It will be interesting to see how NLOTH fares.
Hence it is time to update our running tally of songs rehearsed.
Songs known to be rehearsed so far
New songs: California (There Is No End To Love), Cedarwood Road, Every Breaking Wave (full band and acoustic versions), Invisible, Iris (Hold Me Close), The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone), Ordinary Love, Raised By Wolves, Song For Someone, The Troubles, Volcano.
Old songs: Angel Of Harlem, Bad, Beautiful Day, Bullet The Blue Sky, City Of Blinding Lights, Desire, Elevation, Even Better Than The Real Thing, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, I Will Follow, Magnificent, Miracle Drug, Moment Of Surrender, Mysterious Ways, No Line On The Horizon, One, One Step Closer, Out Of Control, Playboy Mansion, Pride, Running To Stand Still, Sunday Bloody Sunday, The Electric Co., Until The End Of The World, Vertigo, Where The Streets Have No Name, and With Or Without You.
Total: 38. For context, U2 are known to have rehearsed 31 songs in Barcelona prior to the start of 360.
