U2's Chicago #2 setlist, 25/06
Tonight, U2 performed their second of five shows in Chicago. If you need to catch up on the first night's proceedings, see here.
U2 soundchecked earlier today, and the news is very interesting. The Crystal Ballroom, yet to be performed live, was rehearsed twice. The band also did Volcano, The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone), and Beautiful Day with a Moment of Surrender snippet leading into Bad. Unfortunately, Crystal Ballroom did not make its debut tonight, but the rest of the soundcheck was a harbinger of what was to come.
Three songs returned after an absence of three shows: Angel Of Harlem, One, and Bad. Volcano returned after missing two shows, and Out Of Control after missing one. Beautiful Day ended with a very lengthy snippet of Moment Of Surrender, a few more lines of which featured again at the end of Bad. On the current tour, all but one of Bad's six performances have been on the second night in a city (the exception is its appearance at the first show in Phoenix).
Before Every Breaking Wave, Bono sung the melody of Also Sprach Zarathustra, the theme of 2001: A Space Odyssey, as Edge's piano rose onto the stage. During Until The End Of The World, Bono altered the lyrics to "we broke the bread, drank the wine, since 1987" in reference to a sign in the audience. He sung very little of One tonight, letting the audience take over for the majority of the song.
