Today U2 performed their first of two shows at the Rose Bowl, Pasadena, in the greater Los Angeles area. They have played the Rose Bowl just once before, for the 25 October 2009 concert that was broadcast live on YouTube and released as an official live video document of the 360 Tour.

In acknowledgement of the tragic death of Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave), the preshow music tonight featured Black Hole Sun right before the song that introduces U2 to the stage, The Pogues' A Rainy Night in Soho. Bono dedicated Running to Stand Still to Cornell and his whole family.

At the end of the Joshua Tree, Bono dedicated the concert to Guus Van Hove and Helena Nuellett, two fans who died in August 2011 while searching for the site where the album's cover was photographed.

There were a couple of tweaks to the setlist. Bad's two previous appearances this tour have been fourth in the setlist, the earliest it has ever been played at any full-tour concert (it was, of course, second at Live Aid). Tonight, it moved to the encore, a far more typical setlist location. It was followed by I Will Follow, played for the second time this tour. This show is the first of the tour to not feature the new unreleased song The Little Things That Give You Away; it was on the printed setlist, but the band conferred after Bad and chose to play I Will Follow.

By shifting Bad to the encore, all of the Joshua Tree songs were played one song earlier than at the three previous shows this tour. This means that tonight's performance of With or Without You is the equal third-earliest it has ever been played. It was also done seventh on 30 March 2005. It has appeared fifth in one set and sixth in another. Otherwise, it has typically appeared late in the main set or in the encore.
