U2's Indianapolis setlist, 10/09/17
Today U2 performed in Indianapolis. It's been a long time between drinks for Indiana: the last U2 show anywhere in the state was on 10 October 2001 (the only Elevation Tour show not opened by Elevation, and to not feature Bullet the Blue Sky). The Elevation Tour is the only U2 tour to feature two concerts in Indiana: exactly five months before playing South Bend, they hit Indianapolis for Bono's 41st birthday.
The only time before today that U2 have performed a stadium show in Indiana was on 1 November 1987 on the original Joshua Tree Tour. That night featured the debut of the Dalton Brothers before U2's actual set. Today's show is just U2's fifth concert in the state, and when you add the Daltons it is the sixth separate performance.
During Trip Through Your Wires, Bono recalled the Daltons' performance, and at the end he sarcastically asked an audience member who was there: "were you changed by the experience of the Dalton Brothers? We were." Later he quipped that those who don't know about the Daltons aren't missing anything, "but we looked great! Especially Betty Dalton [Adam]."
Reports from soundcheck indicate that U2 rehearsed new single You're the Best Thing About Me at least four times. This was a harbinger of its tour debut, and only its second performance ever after it was played on Fallon's TV show last Thursday. It was performed in the setlist spot occupied at recent shows by Mysterious Ways. Bono introduced it as being about a nightmare where he had left his wife and kids, and how when he told his wife about it, she laughed at him and said that even if he tried to leave he wouldn't be able to find the door.
The show ended with a snippet of Drowning Man at the end of One. It was even longer than when it was first snippeted this tour in Buffalo. The song still has not yet been performed in full live.
