Day 3 rehearsals in Laval: 11 April 2018
Day 3 of rehearsals saw the band work on four songs, none of which had been heard over the last two days. With the other rink in the building busy with several hockey practices, the band may have opted to not run through much material while the building was otherwise in use. A heavy security presence around the arena suggests that there is material that the band would like to keep as a surprise. With two weeks at the venue booked, at this point the band is still focused on working on individual songs rather than an overall set. With that said, and with thanks once again to the ever-excellent U2Songs, here is today's summary:
- Pride (In the Name of Love)
- Pride (In the Name of Love)
- Get Out of Your Own Way
- American Soul
- City of Blinding Lights
Acrobat was heard multiple times, but those at the venue indicated that they believe it to be playbacks from previous sessions rather than a live rehearsal. Get Out of Your Own Way and American Soul appear for the first time and in album order; City of Blinding Lights was also heard for the first time and the band transitioned into it from American Soul.
Pride becomes the oldest song yet known to be rehearsed, and the first from before 1988. It's inclusion may be considered a surprise given the prominence it had last tour (Bono has in the past called it the true first song from The Joshua Tree); but then, it is Pride. A tour without that song appearing is less likely than Edge's real name actually being Steve. On a personal level, the inclusion of the full guitar part from the album version, something not heard since the song's second-ever appearance, would be a welcome inclusion if U2 feel like changing the song up a bit. Lads, if you're reading this... please?
