Bono's Toronto setlist, 06/11/22
Tonight Bono was in Toronto for the only Canadian stop on his solo tour. This was the 28th time he has performed in the country's biggest city, and the first time in more than 5 years after the e+i tour missed it entirely.
Security told fans outisde on several occasions that Bono was resting his voice for the evening, and it was noticeably rough at some moments during the show (though the final song, "Torna a Surriento", was phenomenal). This likely had a bearing on the sole change to the set, the absence of an encore. When taking their final bows Jacknife Lee could see be seen asking Bono a question to which an audible "no" was heard in response, so we surmise it was about performing one more song.
Despite the slight vocal strain he was in good humour during the evening, interacting with fans throughout and at one point calling out local fan Mark Baker, better known in the community as U2Brothr, for his Mirrorball Man outfit while mentioning the PopMart lemon. The show was chock-full of references to Canada, from mentions of Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, and (of course) Daniel Lanois to thanks to the country for the efforts in the fight against AIDS.
On a final note, we at U2Gigs would like to thank the security outside for preventing an altercation between a passerby and a noticeably angry bootleg shirt seller. Thanks for keeping it safe.
