Bono's San Francisco setlist, 12/11/22
San Francisco is a place rarely visited by U2 considering its size and fame. Including Bono's visit last night this is only our 14th entry for this city (U2 did play at the Cow Palace in 2016 but, despite its proximity to San Francisco, it is actually in Daly City so is not included in these statistics). Three of those entries are Interview/promotional appearances and a fourth was a night (or rather very early morning) of drinking with Oasis. The last performance in the city associated with an actual tour? That was way back on 15 December 1984 on The Unforgettable Fire Tour.
Incredibly, the last time U2 performed in the city was 11 November 1987 when they "stopped the traffic" with a free 9-song lunchtime set that included "All Along the Watchtower" which was filmed for Rattle & Hum. On that day Bono spray-painted the Vaillancourt Fountain, an act that generated significant local controversy in the days following and led to the police department considering pressing charges against him. The San Francisco Chronicle had a look back at that event in 2017, which you can read here. Yesterday's performance came one day after the 35th anniversary of that event.
Last night's performance remained unchanged from previous shows.
