Preliminary 2011 rumours
Rescheduling an entire tour is a tough ask. When the Vertigo Tour's concerts in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and Hawaii were postponed in March 2006, it was not until July, some four months later, that the new dates were announced. So regardless of U2.com's claims that rescheduled dates for 2011 will be announced soon, don't get too optimistic. Sorting out all the logistics and signing off all the contracts is quite a protracted process.
However, the rumour mill has some good news. A source of the @U2 crew has told them that Live Nation has already begun making calls to reschedule the North American concerts. This has included contacting cities and venues that were not in the 2010 itinerary. There is some precedent from 2006 for this: the third Sydney show, on 13 November 2006, was not in the original itinerary, while the three concerts in Saitama replaced one concert at Yokohama's Nissan Stadium.
Rumours have also been circulating recently regarding U2 concerts outside of North America and Europe, and our friends at U2Chile have expanded upon these. They state that Live Nation has been working with local promoters and venues on the basis of the following provisional itinerary: Japan and South Korea in early February 2011; Australia and New Zealand in late February; Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Peru in March; and then Mexico and the rescheduled US and Canadian dates in April and May.
Out of these countries, U2 have never before performed in South Korea and Peru. U2Chile provides further details with regards to the South American venues, stating that negotiations have at present focused upon River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Morumbi, Sao Paulo and Maracana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru. No mention is made of a Chilean venue.
Of course, at this early stage, with Bono only just beginning his recovery, take all of this with a grain of salt. We will naturally keep you updated when there are any further developments.
