U2's Frankfurt setlist, 10/08
After three days of rest, U2 returned to the stage for their second 360° Tour concert of 2010, in Frankfurt. This show was the first of three German concerts for 2010, and when U2's 2010 European concert dates were announced on 24 September 2009, this was first on the list for the whole continent. It lost its status as the opening concert of the European leg over two months later, when the Turin show was confirmed on 30 November 2009. This is only the third time U2 have ever performed in Frankfurt. The previous two shows were way back on ZooTV; 29 May 1992 on the arena leg and 2 June 1993 on the stadium leg.
The setlist in Frankfurt tonight differed little from opening night in Turin. One of the three new songs, North Star, was cut, but Return Of The Stingray Guitar and Glastonbury stayed in the setlist. New Year's Day returned to the set for the first time since 3 October 2009, marking just its eleventh performance on the 360° Tour. It was performed as the third song, which is the earliest it has been played in a setlist since 10 October 2001. The only other change from Turin is that Magnificent was performed after Get On Your Boots, not before. Moment Of Surrender was dedicated to those who died last month in the crowd crush at the Love Parade dance music festival in Duisburg.
For those of you who like to follow the snippets, Michael Stipe of REM was in the audience tonight, so Vertigo had a snippet of It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) at the end. Meanwhile, there was the return of a snippet done earlier in the tour that had seemed to vanish: lyrics from Movin' On Up by Primal Scream featured at the end of I Still Haven't Found for the first time since 1 October 2009.
