Rumours of U2 in Argentina and South Africa
Rumours continue to circulate regarding U2 concerts in both Argentina and South Africa.
A South American tour has been rumoured for quite some time, with some sources suggesting an announcement could happen this month. The latest rumour from Argentina, reported by Rolling Stone Argentina (in Spanish) is that U2 may perform in the country on 31 March 2011. Recent reports have indicated that U2's past Argentine venue, River Plate Stadium, is now off-limits to concerts due to noise and structural concerns. The rumour from Rolling Stone indicates that the band may consequently perform at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata, outside Buenos Aires in the nearby city of La Plata.
Across the Atlantic in South Africa, there is good and bad news regarding last week's rumour that the band may perform there in February 2011. The good news? The promoters, Big Concerts, have confirmed that they have been in talks to get U2 to perform. The bad news? In the same breath, they are adamant nothing has been confirmed and that, at this stage, the rumours are untrue. So don't get too excited yet about U2 making just their second visit to South Africa.
