U2 to play Mexico on 14 May 2011
Just a few minutes ago U2.com announced the first date for the long rumoured 360° tour dates in spring 2011. The first date announced is Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico on 14 May 2011. This will be U2's fourth visit to Mexico, following performances on the ZooTV, Popmart, and Vertigo tours.
The full U2.com article can be found here. They perhaps need to brush up on their geography: the article claims that the tour will visit Mexico City "before returning to North America", despite the fact Mexico City is very much in continental North America.
Tickets go on sale to the general public at 11am on Thursday, 30 September 2010 via Ticketmaster Mexico. This sale will be preceded by a presale for Banamex card holders at 11am on Tuesday, 28 September. U2.com members will be able to purchase tickets in their own presale before Banamex card holders. There are two presale groups: group 1 (all members who joined before 21 August 2010, i.e. the Horizon, Breathe, Boots, and Magnificent groups) and group 2 (all new subscribers, i.e. the Cedars group). The presale begins for group 1 at 11am on Friday, 24 September; group 2 gains entry to the presale at 10am on Sunday, 26 September. General admission tickets will be M$850. The cheapest seated tickets will be M$350; the price of the most expensive seats is not given.
Unfortunately, no hint is given regarding any further concerts in Latin America. The aforementioned geographically incorrect sentence states that "U2 360° will start-up again next year and visit Mexico City on May 14th before returning to North America", but this does not explicitly state the tour resumes with the Mexico City gig, just that its resumption includes a Mexico City gig before the other North American dates. The "and" strips the sentence of precision. So, unfortunately, the waiting game continues for South American fans.
