U2's camp announce Winnipeg concert
Ever since the South African shows were announced on Monday, we have also known that a Winnipeg concert was about to be announced, thanks to a leaked tour itinerary and Ticketmaster Canada subsequently adding the show to their website. U2.com has now finally announced the concert.
U2 will perform in Winnipeg on 29 May 2011 at Canad Inns Stadium. This is just the second time U2 have ever performed in the province of Manitoba; the first time was on the Popmart Tour on 12 June 1997. The forthcoming gig is being played at the same venue as on Popmart; back then it was still known as Winnipeg Stadium.
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Monday, 25 October. U2.com members will be able to participate in a presale that begins, Thursday, 21 October.
On a statistical note, the announcement of this show brings the total Canadian gigs on the 360 Tour to eight. Never before have U2 performed eight stadium gigs in Canada on a single tour; the previous record was seven on Popmart. The record for most gigs in Canada on a single tour, regardless of venue type, is nine; this was achieved on both the Elevation and Vertigo Tours, when all concerts were played in arena venues.
