Third U2 show in Mexico City confirmed
A few hours ago, we reported that a listing for a third concert in Mexico City had mysteriously appeared on U2.com. This concert has now been confirmed.
U2 will perform in Mexico City on 11 May 2011 at Azteca Stadium. Yes, this show will be before the two previously announced concerts. It is extremely rare for U2 to announce extra concerts in a city on a date prior to the first show; it did not happen at all on the Vertigo Tour, but it did happen earlier this tour, when the second Zagreb show was announced for the day prior to the first.
Tickets for this show will go on sale to the general public at 11am on Thursday, 18 November. This sale will be preceded by two presales. First will be a presale for U2.com subscribers, beginning at 9am on Tuesday, 9 November and running to midday on Thursday, 11 November. Second will be a presale for Banamex cardholders, beginning at 11am on Tuesday, 16 November. All times are local.
U2.com's announcement interestingly includes the following claim: "the band have been mixing up the set list night after night and the Wednesday show is set to warm thing up for those lucky Saturday fans who got tickets early!" A cryptic hint or just hype?
(And yes, we know that the band haven't really mixed the setlist up all that much, but the European leg had some of the greatest setlist variety of any U2 stadium tour ever. Most of their stadium tours have had even more static setlists.)
