U2's Auckland #1 setlist, 25/11
Today, the 360° Tour re-commenced at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland. This show was played exactly four years since U2 were last in New Zealand, on 25 November 2006. U2 spent the last couple of days rehearsing in the lead-up to this show; see our report for Tuesday 23/11 here and Wednesday 24/11 here (there was also a crew soundcheck on Monday 22/11). Today, the band's crew reportedly soundchecked Bad.
The setlist featured the tour debuts of One Tree Hill and Scarlet. One Tree Hill was last performed on 30 November 2006. Before tonight's performance, Bono spoke about the Pike River mine disaster, and the names of the 29 victims were displayed on screen during the song. Scarlet's performance was the first performance of any song from October on the 360° Tour; now Pop is the only album from which a song has not been performed this tour. This was just the second performance of Scarlet ever; the first was way back on 3 September 1981. That gap, of 29 years, 2 months, and 22 days, is the longest gap between performances in U2 history, shattering The Ocean's previous record of 22 years, 3 months, and 21 days.
Otherwise, the setlist resembled that performed in Europe earlier this year. In the rotational slots of third and 22nd, I Will Follow and Ultra Violet appeared. Pride, which has been infrequently performed this year, made a somewhat unexpected appearance in the middle of the main set. The only unreleased song performed was the opener, Return Of The Stingray Guitar.
