U2 soundchecking in South Africa
The 360° Tour is about to resume with two shows this month in South Africa, and after almost two months off, U2 have rehearsed in Johannesburg. Rehearsal reports have been more scant than usual, but here is what we have been able to gather.
There was reportedly a soundcheck on 11 February. We have struggled to confirm some of these details. The website U2mx has posted a list of rehearsed songs, but - especially with regards to a couple of the more sensational songs - we must urge caution. We have not yet been able to otherwise verify these songs, so take this report as unconfirmed for the time being. It is also unknown if the whole band was involved, though we are confident that Edge at the very least was there for some of the soundcheck. The songs reported on U2mx are:
Return Of The Stingray Guitar
Even Better Than The Real Thing (instrumental)
Get On Your Boots
Magnificent
No Line On The Horizon
Kite (acoustic)
Vertigo
Zooropa (incomplete)
Crazy Tonight
Reports for today, 12 February, are more solid. Twitter user elvetio has reported that a full set was rehearsed, with other sources independently confirming various parts of the set. The full set as reported by elvetio is:
1. Return Of The Stingray Guitar
2. Beautiful Day
3. I Will Follow
4. Get On Your Boots
5. Magnificent
6. Mysterious Ways
7. Elevation
8. Until The End Of The World
9. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
10. Kite
11. Mercy
12. Miss Sarajevo
13. City Of Blinding Lights
14. Vertigo
15. Crazy Tonight
16. Sunday Bloody Sunday
17. Scarlet
18. Walk On
"Encore":
19. One
20. Where The Streets Have No Name
21. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
22. With Or Without You
23. Moment Of Surrender
Thank you to elvetio and all who have reported from Johannesburg! If Kite does make the set tomorrow, it will be its tour debut; it was last performed on 24 November 2006. This would also mean that all of the first six songs on All That You Can't Leave Behind will have been played this tour; none of the remaining five songs have been played since the end of the Elevation Tour in December 2001.
All will be revealed tomorrow. Stay tuned for the setlist from U2's first concert in Johannesburg since 1998!
