U2's Mexico City #1 setlist, 11/05
Today, U2 performed the first of three shows in Mexico City, kicking off the final leg of their 360° Tour. They rehearsed at Azteca Stadium over the previous two days; you can see our rehearsal report for 09/05 here and 10/05 here.
The setlist was little changed from that of the previous leg in South America. The best news is that Zooropa has stayed in the setlist, making just its sixth live appearance ever, and popular new opener Even Better Than The Real Thing is still hanging around too. An extended Discotèque snippet appeared near the end of Crazy Tonight, a welcome return to the setlist after appearing at some 2010 shows; it was joined by a snippet of fellow Pop track Please. Discothèque has not been played in full since 20 September 2005 and Please has not been played in full since 2 December 2001. No songs from Pop have been played in full this tour, but it's nice to see the album at least getting some snippetry love.
Happy Birthday was sung for Bono before I Still Haven't Found in honour of his 51st birthday yesterday; Edge leads the crowd in their rendition. After Stuck, a woman came on stage to read a poem by 15th century poet Nezahualcoyotl of the Acolhua people. On a more sombre note, Bono dedicated Moment Of Surrender to those who have lost loved ones in recent violence in Mexico.
Stay tuned as we hope to have some videos and photos from our friend terrorsittich. The full setlist was:
