Private U2 show in Denver, 20/05
Tomorrow in Denver, U2 finally begin their tour of the US and Canada that was postponed from last year. Tonight, the band warmed up - and not just with a soundcheck. About 300 invited guests and participants in the Special Olympics were let into Invesco Field in Denver for a pretty intimate show. Before the guests arrived, U2 rehearsed Magnificent, Miss Sarajevo, Zooropa, and City Of Blinding Lights; the first three were done multiple times.
The band played basically a full setlist for their guests, not to mention a bunch of fans outside the stadium who were queuing for tomorrow's gig. The set included a rare performance of All I Want Is You, which has only been played at three gigs on the 360° Tour. That was followed by an only somewhat less rare performance of Stay; although it was done about a week ago in Mexico City, before that it had not been played since 2009, when it appeared at ten gigs.
The only song not performed tonight that is usually played was Moment Of Surrender. That song has only missed one show on the 360° Tour, 9 December 2010, when the band ran up against Brisbane's curfew. On a more pedantic note, Pride unusually appeared after Beautiful Day tonight; when Pride is played, it normally slots in before BD rather than afterwards. Also, the video before One was not the usual Desmond Tutu video, but something new (on which details are scant at this stage).
The full setlist was:
