U2 will headline KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas
The Songs of Innocence promo tour will continue into December. Almost two months ago, Bono told KROQ's Kevin and Bean in an interview that U2 would like to play an acoustic session on their radio station. Now a performance has been arranged - and not just any performance, but a headlining slot at KROQ's annual Almost Acoustic Christmas.
U2 have been confirmed as headliner on the second night of Almost Acoustic Christmas, on Saturday the 14th of December. Also performing that night are Alt-J, Imagine Dragons, former touring partners Interpol, Modest Mouse, Smashing Pumpkins, Tears for Fears, Vance Joy, and Weezer. The first night features Bush, Fall Out Boy, Incubus, Linkin Park, New Politics, Rise Against, Royal Blood, System of a Down, and Walk the Moon. Both nights take place at the Forum in Inglewood, California, a venue U2 have not played since the Conspiracy of Hope Tour on 6 June 1986.
Unlike most promo shows so far, which have either been closed to the public or feature very restricted attendance, you can attend this gig! Tickets go on sale this Friday, the 14th of November, at noon US Pacific Time. The sale is via Ticketmaster.com and you must be a member of the KROQ Street Team to receive the password to access the ticket sale. The password will be emailed on Wednesday, so go here and select Street Team to join. There will be no presales. Ticket prices range between $75 and $150 for seats, and General Admission costs $95. Both nights benefit charity. If you cannot attend, Almost Acoustic Christmas is normally webcast and we will post details closer to the event.
Bono did another interview with Kevin and Bean to talk about this gig; you can listen at this link. The last time U2 performed live on KROQ was back on 26 October 2000 when they were promoting All That You Can't Leave Behind. Our database entry for the forthcoming concert is here.
