"U2 Minus 1" to perform in New York today
Surprise announcement time!
Today, U2 will perform at a Project Red concert in Times Square, New York for World AIDS Day. Or, more to the point, three quarters of U2 will perform as "U2 Minus 1". Edge, Adam, and Larry will be there, but Bono is still recovering from his bicycle accident and under doctor's orders not to perform yet.
At the invitation of U2, Chris Martin of Coldplay and Bruce Springsteen have stepped in to ensure the concert will go ahead. They will take turns fronting the band.
The concert begins at 7:30pm local time and will be broadcast on YouTube and iHeartRadio. Kanye West and Carrie Underwood will also perform.
See the official announcement on U2.com here, and our database listing for this concert is here. As always, stay tuned to U2gigs after the show for the setlist.
PS At present we have no news either way whether U2's set on 14 December for KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas will go ahead. Rumours are circulating that U2's 2015 tour is on the verge of announcement, but again firm information is in short supply.
