Vancouver update, 29 April 2015
Today, U2 conducted only a short rehearsal at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver. However, U2FanPeter on Interference has posted some extra tidbits from earlier this week, and a New York Times article has given us some other information.
First, Peter's information. He reports that both California (There Is No End to Love) and One were rehearsed on Monday, 27 April. One was performed largely just by Bono and Edge, with the full band coming in for the final coda. Hence Peter believes that it - like Every Breaking Wave and With Or Without You - will feature the string section.
In another post, he describes tonight's rehearsal as featuring just four songs. Clearly they were taking it easy after the lengthier sessions earlier in the week. For the last couple of nights, U2 have rehearsed Even Better Than The Real Thing and Desire together in combination.
Now on to the New York Times article, which is well worth a read - and note that Bono now has blonde hair. The most interesting setlist information is that the band have now shied away from the original plan to have the two nights as entirely different concerts. Last week, they changed their approach: the first half of the concert will be relatively fixed, then there will be an intermission (which, unless you count the taped mix of Lemon before Discotheque on Popmart, has never been done before on a U2 tour), and the second half will vary from night to night.
As for song selection, the NYT emphasises the centrality of Raised By Wolves to the show's theme, appearing at the midpoint of the show. It also describes the band rehearsing Elevation, and gives some fairly elaborate descriptions of the stage and lighting. According to their report, the show will begin with a single lightbulb - both to draw upon themes from Songs of Innocence that look back to Bono's youth, and as a striking contrast to the grandeur and bombast of the 360 Tour. The show will then proceed to some much more spectacular effects; visit the article to get the details.
More to come from Vancouver when we get it.
Edit: additional information
Aaaand here you go! Our friends from atu2 report correspondence that Miracle Drug has been rehearsed. We can confirm this via our own source - it was rehearsed on both Monday and Tuesday. A poster in atu2's forum has reported additional songs rehearsed on Wednesday. It appears that after the four-song set reported by Peter, the band came back for a later session. This included One Step Closer, City Of Blinding Lights, Where The Streets Have No Name, Ordinary Love, The Troubles, and With Or Without You featuring a Love Will Tear Us Apart snippet.
